Search Strategies
How to find what you're looking for (if you don't really know what you're looking for)
Sometimes it can be hard to know where to start exploring a topic if you don't know much about it to begin with. A good way to start is by asking yourself some of the following questions:
Who would know more about this? Are there professionals, experts, or authorities I could find?
What type of information would be helpful? A video on YouTube? A news article? An article from a trade journal? Academic journal? Do I need numerical data or do I need interviews with stakeholders?
What key words do I already know? How could I learn more or better terms to improve my search results?
What would my ideal source look like? What words might be in the title?
Keeping a log of your searches can be helpful. Write down terms you used, where you searched, and how you found useful sources. This will help you move forward.
