Using Your Library

What are library resources?

This term refers to anything the library provides: books, magazines, online databases, and resource guides like this one. They are selected and organized to be useful to you.

Why use resources from your school library?

When you need information, your school library is here to help. There is plenty of great information to find online using a search engine, but when you need trustworthy, correct, expert, useful information, your library resources have been selected just for you.

What are library databases?

Your library subscribes to a number of high-quality, well-reviewed, award-winning subscription databases.  These resources are part of the library collection, except that instead of being organized on shelves, they are available online.  Many of these will help you with research in any topic; others are more subject-specific.  All of them will supply you with pre-formatted MLA citations for each entry.

If you have questions about using any of these great resources, do not hesitate to ask Ms. Hammond or Ms. Sweeney.

What is the library catalog (Destiny)?

A library catalog is a way to discover books in a certain library collection, and find out where they are so you can use them.

Our school library catalog is called "Destiny." In Destiny, you can search to see if we have a specific book you want, or you can browse by keyword or subject to find many books on the topic you need.
