The Free Speech Movement (FSM) Digital Archives document the role of Mario Savio and other participants in the Free Speech Movement (University of California, Berkeley, September-December 1964), as well as its origins in political protest and civil rights movements and its legacy of political activism and educational reform that can be traced throughout the country and the world down to the present

Outstanding site with audio, photos, scans of original documents, a bibliography covering printed journalism related to the FSM from 1964 on, with many illustrative quotations, and links to the actual texts, art, poetry and songbook, and so much more, on the history and activities of the FSM.

The Free Speech Movement Oral History Project consists of nearly fifty interviews--most are available here, but some are still in process. Interviews were conducted by Lisa Rubens, an historian and longtime interviewer for the Regional Oral History Office, between 1999 and 2001, after extensive meetings with an advisory committee. Dr. Rubens was also a student at Berkeley during the FSM and had been a witness to many of the major events of that movement.

transcript and audio interview with journalist Seth Rosenfeld; Rosenfeld's new book, Subversives: The FBI's War on Student Radicals and Reagan's Rise to Power, details how the FBI employed fake reporters to plant ideas and shape public opinion about the student movement; how they planted stories with real reporters; and how they even managed — with the help of then-Gov. Ronald Reagan — to get the UC Berkeley's President Clark Kerr fired.

To research the book, Rosenfeld pored over 300,000 pages of records obtained over 30 years from five lengthy Freedom of Information Act lawsuits against the FBI.
